 Gallup says Americans pro-choice.  True?

Gallup’s headline was “Americans choose “pro-choice” for first time in seven years.”  But, not so fast.   For the last seven years, sometimes the largest numbers of Americans described themselves as pro-life and in other years more described themselves as pro-choice.  So does that mean that Americans have decidedly moved to a pro-choice position?

A recent poll by the Marist Institute for Public Opinion looked at more specific aspects.  They found, for instance that about 78% of Americans, including some who say they are pro-choice, would limit abortion to the first three months of pregnancy. Only about 1 in 10 Americans supports the limitless abortion advocated by many of the political and feminist leaders of today.  The others are closer to the pro-life position.

So, are Americans pro-choice?  If you just look at labels, maybe.  But if you look at details, not so much.
