Leo Holmsten Human Life Award 2005
Gerry Oftedahl
The award this year was of special importance to Rochester Area Right to Life because it honored Gerry Oftedahl, the long-time former president of RARTL, who still writes the newsletter and is active in RARTL in many ways.
Also a past president of New York State Right to Life, Gerry was happy to see guests from that organization at the dinner. Her friend Ernie Ohlhoff came from National Right to Life in Washington, DC, for the occasion.
Carol Crossed, previous LHHL award winner, introduced Gerry by reciting, as her first words into the microphone, a series of numbers, which almost everyone in the room immediately recognized as Gerrys phone number. Such is the impact and help she has been for the pro-life community in Rochester.
Ernie Ohlhoff chose to focus on Gerrys successes in the New York State organization, and his figures were so interesting we asked him to make his talk available to all of us.
Gerrys acceptance speech acknowledged the past but included a call for activity for the present and future. As she said, Lets continue to figuratively hold hands, as we literally do all we can to restore respect for innocent, human life, born and unborn.
